HR 1962 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Guaranteeing Overtime for Truckers Act
To amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to remove the overtime wages exemption for certain employees, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to remove the overtime wages exemption for certain employees. Specifically, it strikes paragraph (1) of Section 13(b), which currently exempts motor carrier employees from federal overtime requirements. The effect is to make motor carrier employees, including truck drivers, eligible for overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours per week. These employees would then be entitled to overtime compensation at one and a half times their regular rate of pay for all hours worked beyond 40 hours per week.
