HR 1579 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Broadband Buildout Accountability Act
To apply the Freedom of Information Act to actions and decisions of the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information in carrying out the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program.
Summary
This bill applies the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program administered by the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information. The bill amends the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to carve out an exception to an existing exemption, making FOIA available for actions and decisions under the broadband program. Under this change, members of the public may request and obtain documents related to how the broadband program is being administered and implemented. The bill requires transparency and accountability in decision-making for the broadband program, which distributes federal funding to expand broadband access in underserved communities.
