This bill designates the West Indian manatee as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. The Secretary of the Interior is required to include the West Indian manatee in the official endangered species list published under the Endangered Species Act. The endangered species designation would provide the manatee with the full range of legal protections available under federal law for endangered species, including habitat protection, restrictions on taking, and recovery planning requirements.
