To amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to provide incentives for education on the risk of renal medullary carcinoma in individuals who are receiving medical assistance under such title and who have sickle cell disease.

Introduced Jan 3, 2025

Latest action (Jan 3, 2025) Referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

Summary

This bill amends Medicaid to add renal medullary carcinoma to the list of conditions for which states receive enhanced federal reimbursement when providing health education and risk awareness to Medicaid beneficiaries with sickle cell disease. Renal medullary carcinoma is a rare kidney cancer associated with sickle cell disease and trait. By including RMC alongside existing conditions like stroke, the bill creates a financial incentive for states to educate sickle cell disease patients about the risks of developing this cancer. The changes are effective upon enactment.
