Protecting the Second Amendment in Financial Services Act
To prohibit the use of a merchant category code that separately identifies firearms merchants or ammunition merchants, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill would prohibit the use of merchant category codes that separately identify firearms merchants or ammunition merchants in credit card processing. The prohibition would apply to all entities involved in credit card transactions, including banks, payment processors, payment card networks, and payment card issuers. These entities would be forbidden from using or implementing a distinct merchant category code for businesses that sell firearms or ammunition. The bill amends the Truth in Lending Act to add this new restriction on the financial services industry's use of merchant classification codes for firearms and ammunition retailers.
