Supporting Access to Rural Community Hospitals Act of 2025

To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to waive certain distance requirements for certain hospitals electing to be designated as critical access hospitals.

Introduced Feb 11, 2025

Latest action (Feb 11, 2025) Referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means.

Summary

This bill amends Medicare law to waive certain distance requirements for rural community hospitals seeking to be designated as critical access hospitals. Specifically, it allows rural community hospitals that were participating in a demonstration program as of the bill's enactment to be designated as critical access hospitals without meeting certain distance requirements that would normally apply. Critical access hospital designations must occur within a one-year period beginning six months after the bill's enactment. The bill makes conforming amendments to update references in related demonstration program language.
