HR 1004 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To amend titles 10 and 38, United States Code, to improve benefits and services for surviving spouses, and for other purposes.
Summary
- Allows surviving spouses who remarry to continue receiving veterans benefits for burial and gravesite services under sections 1311 and 1562.
- Prevents the Secretary of Defense from terminating Survivor Benefit Plan annuity payments solely because a surviving spouse of an active duty member remarries.
- Resumes Survivor Benefit Plan annuity payments for surviving spouses who remarried before age 55 and before the bill's enactment, beginning one year after enactment or immediately if the surviving spouse had transferred annuity payments to surviving children.
- Expands TRICARE dependent eligibility to include remarried widows or widowers whose subsequent marriage has ended due to death, divorce, or annulment.
