Protect the Gig Economy Act of 2025
To amend Rule 23 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to protect the ``gig economy'' and small businesses that operate in large part through contractor services from the threat of costly class action litigation, and for other purposes.
Summary
The bill amends the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to add a new requirement for class action lawsuits. Class actions may not proceed if they allege the misclassification of employees as independent contractors. This change would prevent workers in the gig economy from bringing class action lawsuits against companies that classify them as independent contractors rather than employees.
